CIL Paint Colour Trends
CIL Paint Colour Trends
No matter the temperature outside, Canadian interiors will bask in warmth in 2016, according to CIL® paint. The leading brand today announced its top paint colours for the year ahead, bundled under the theme of tranquility.

Think brown-hued neutrals, beachy driftwood tones, natural brights, cloudy transluscents and soft pastels. These are warm, down-to-earth colours that promote a sense of serenity, according to Alison Goldman, brand manager for CIL paint, a brand of PPG Architectural Coatings.

“We’re seeing a move away from the saturated greys, blacks and acidic brights that were popular the last few years,” Goldman explained. “The warmer 2016 tones deliver a more modern and livable colour scheme that translates beautifully into any living space.”

The hottest colour of them all? Think pink, Goldman said, citing Chemise Pink (60YR 75/075 MC10) as the CIL paint Colour of the Year. “Soft blush pink will be incorporated in all elements of home decor in 2016, from walls to furnishings to accessories,” she said, adding that the new pink works particularly well with soft green, pale brown, chalky grey and slate.

Other colours topping the list of CIL paint trend colours for next year are: Swiss Coffee (50YY 83/057 MC44) pale cream, Lily Pond (70GY 63/098 SE25) pastel green, Sweetwood (90YR 26/147 MC42) soft brown, Great Grey (50BG 14/036 CP50) light charcoal, Espadrille (18YR 05/072 CP42) chocolate brown, Antarctic Ice (70YY 73/083 MC48) muted grey, Winter’s Silence (50YY 49/191 SE20) tan, Fuchsia Berry (40RR 11/430 DL02) fuchsia, and Peacock’s Plume (16BG 24/357 DL28) teal.
The inclusion of hues such as moss green, charcoal grey and brown-bag-toned shades, all reminiscent of military fatigues, contribute to the palette’s protective feel, Goldman explained.

“There’s a relaxing vibe to this palette, which coordinates with all things delicate and soft, such as buttery leather and liquid-like glossy finishes,” she said. “At the same time, it has the flexibility to be big and bold with the presence of a few deeper accent tones, including gentle indigo and berry red that add a sense of depth and sophistication to a neutral living space.”

When decorating with the 2016 colours, Goldman recommended completing your decor with trendy, gold-toned metallic finishes, which are “equally warm and make gorgeous accents to this palette.” Gold metallic paint, in particular, can be featured on traditional elements in the home, from furniture, crown moulding and ceiling medallions, to wainscoting and fireplace mantels. It can also be used to give the ombré paint technique a new look on accent walls, with gold highlights adding a touch of glam to warm colours graduating from light to dark.
