History of CIL Paints

AkzoNobel is one of the largest chemical companies in the world, with international strengths in the areas of paints, materials and industrial chemicals. The Paints Division is one of five major divisions within AkzoNobel.

1927 – CIL paints are first manufactured in Canada.

1992 - CIL and Glidden introduce the first line of environmentally friendly no-VOC and low-VOC Paints.

1992 – CIL Paints are one of the first consumer brands to receive the Terra Choice Ecologo, certifying that products are certified “environmentally preferable” by Environment Canada.

1993 – ICI Paints introduces the Master Palette International colour system. With 6,134 colours, the Master Palette is the largest colour selection available in the paint industry.

1997 – 2003 – Named Vendor of the Year six times by leading retailers in Canada for sales service, product innovation

2002 – CIL Launches CIL Select with Teflon Surface Protector to provide the ultimate in surface protector

2003 – CIL launches CIL Smart3 – The Next Generation of Paints and Coatings. Smart3 products include:

  • Magic White™ Ceiling Paint – formulated with disappearing white dye technology
  • Any Where Primer – the ultimate interior/exterior problem- solver primer, formulated with Devcryl technology

Wash & Wear Interior finishes – formulated with Teflon and Ceramic Microsphere™ technology to provide 2X easier dirt and stain removal with long lasting resistance to scuffs and chipping on surfaces.
